220+ years of Gospel Legacy
Antioch First Baptist Church has been, and continues to be, an Ebenezer for the community of Antioch. Founded in 1810, the church carries a 220 year faithful history of Gospel mission to the people in and surrounding the area. In 1835, after 25 years of impact, the city of Nashville derived its name for the Southeast sector of the city after this church, a testament to the incredible work God was already doing! “It is humbling to step into a church with such rich history, and be a part of the work the Spirit has been doing for over 220 years,” says Pastor Matt Gray, who is the current Pastor at AFBC. “I am grateful to stand on the shoulders of so many faithful men who have come before me, laid the foundation, and preached the life changing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Antioch FBC’s Mission is to see people GROW in the knowledge and love of Jesus and GO to our neighbors and the nations. God has strategically placed this church in one of the most diverse areas of our city, and we are begging Him to make the church look more and more like the community we serve and love so much. We are excited to get back into the community, meet our neighbors, and share with them the knowledge and love of Jesus!
Before coming to Antioch FBC, Pastor Matt was in the beginning stages of planting a church in the Antioch area. Through God’s providence, the church plant core group and the existing congregation came together in May of 2021, and are now one unified body. “It has been so encouraging to see how God orchestrated all of this, a true testament that His work is not finished. We are expectant we will continue to see the faithfulness of God, as He draws people to himself through the ministry of this church.” God is at work in Antioch, and we believe as Paul told the Philippian Church, “He who began a good work will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
